Mambo Valley is a beautiful traditional style home near Ubud, situated in its own private valley with a stream and waterfalls. The gate opens onto a private driveway, and you enter a quiet world of ancient hardwood trees, flowers, and enormous butterflies, with flocks of white herons crossing the valley across the setting sun.
You are home!
The villa nestles within a peaceful valley surrounded by picturesque tropical scenery and local wildlife.
Special care has gone into designing the bedrooms, which are traditional hand-crafted Balinese wooden houses, crafted from sustainable Sumbawanese lumber and thatched for comfort, cool and cosiness.
The two individual bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, each with its own private wooden terrace overlooking the valley, with king-size beds, goose-down pillows and duvets, and overhead ceiling fans and air conditioning.
Between the bedrooms, there’s a lovely plunge pool ringed by giant tree ferns, with a courtyard, sunbathing deck, sun loungers and umbrella, and a wooden yoga deck over the adjacent stream.
The living room is bright and airy, with two gorgeous green sofas, a Romeo & Juliet balcony overlooking the waterfall, and a cantilevered semi-circular terrace with a spectacular view of the valley’s mature trees and ferns below.
The separate, fully equipped teak-and-black-granite kitchen and dining area have a contrasting white limestone floor and a Dutch dining table that seats six in extreme comfort. It’s a sociable area for cooking, chatting, eating and drinking in a highly convivial setting– the beating heart of the house.
Mambo Valley is close to many attractions, both cultural and culinary. The exceptional Pepitos supermarket is five minutes away, with a superb delicatessen offering fresh-baked bread, gourmet meat and fish selections and a decent selection of wine and spirits. Restaurants abound, our favourites being Sayan House (10 minutes away), and the world-famous Naughty Nuri’s, justly celebrated for its superb ribs. Ubud itself is a world-famous culinary mecca with restaurants and bars to suit every taste.
The property has two large, luxuriously appointed Balinese-style individual bedroom-houses, each with a large terrace, bathroom with rain shower and wooden basin, roomy cupboards, and a large desk with plenty of outlets for digital nomads. Everything is geared to comfort and an unparalleled sleep experience, from our King-Coil beds and mattresses, Egyptian cotton sheets and goose-down duvets and pillows, to the whisper-quiet a/c and overhead fans.
And of course, an extra bed (or two) can be arranged!
The owners are English, so it’s hardly surprising that the Living Room is a colonial delight, with large comfortable sofas, a cosy Romeo & Juliet balcony, Wifi, a large-screen TV and DVD player, and an extensive curated selection of films. It opens onto a beautiful terrace overlooking the valley’s streams and waterfalls, a perfect spot to sip a cocktail, listen to read a book, and – if you’re lucky – watch the white herons fly past at sunset.
Cantilevered over the valley and lined with natural stone and blue granite tiles, bordered by a deck with a large double sun lounger (plenty of room here for cocktails, books and towels) and generous sunbrella, it’s a truly lovely spot for a dip.
The large, natural stone plunge pool is located between the two main bedrooms overlooking the valley. Deep enough for a refreshing dip, it comes with a double sun lounger for sunbathing and a large umbrella for reading (or loitering with intent to read). Framing the pool is a series of rare giant tree ferns, xxx and providing a dramatic flourish to this beautiful space.
Dining & Kitchen
A beautiful open plan, the traditional-style teak building next to the Living Room. The kitchen itself is teak and black granite, with all modern cooking appliances, a large fridge stock with a cold beer and other goodies, and a large round wooden dining table with extremely comfortable chairs that seats 6. The entire kitchen area is open-sided, with a view over the valley.
Last but not least is the private valley itself, yours to share with your guests. Fed by a lovely stream with four small waterfalls, it features mature trees (including Rambutan, Mango, Papaya, Banana, Clove, Durian and giant Bamboos), a wooden yoga deck above the stream that doubles as a secret relaxation spot, and a landscape of ferns, flowers and countless butterflies.
